KCTS TRAILS

A labyrinth of interconnected trails winds through the forested slopes of the Rossland Range. Many trace old wagon roads, rail grades, and even smuggler’s routes that date back to the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The network includes:

  • wide and gently angled historic rail grades
  • winding paths through forested glades and across streams
  • climbs past historic mining ruins to panoramic views
  • precipitous drops with jumps and stunts for expert bikers

There are trails for every level of the following activities:

  • walking, hiking, snowshoeing & equestrian
  • biking: downhill & cross-country
  • skiing: cross-country

DESCRIPTIONS - EXPERT (technical biking) (4)

RATINGS

MOUNTAIN BIKING

GENTLE & INTERMEDIATE generally per hiking ratings above.

ADVANCED for biking refers to more technical challenges.

EXPERT for biking: great technical skill required to handle very steep sections, drops and stunts. Should only be attempted by expert mountain bikers with appropriate equipment.

(On foot – steep scrambling often necessary on expert bike trails)

WALKING, HIKING, SNOWSHOEING & EQUESTRIAN

GENTLE

Wide & relatively flat. Less than 1 hour (one-way).

INTERMEDIATE

Single-track & more elevation. 1 to 2 hours, or so (one-way).

ADVANCED

All beyond ‘Intermediate’. A wide range of trips up to a full day, often with major elevation gains. Require experience to judge basic difficulty and whether one’s capabilities are sufficient.

SKIING

Depends upon snow conditions, steepness and widths of specific trail sections (to enable skiers to slow down). Recommended only on the Centennial Trail and Railgrade Trail.

{However, many trails are enjoyed by skiers with sufficient skill, appropriate equipment and the capability to judge conditions; plus, a willingness to hike certain sections if necessary}
